I
had the great opportunity to attend the CALL-ACAMS Annual Conference (Canadian
Association of Labour Lawyers - http://www.call-acams.com),
founded at the end of the 1980s and that today brings together about 250
lawyers committed to the defense of labour rights and development of human
rights. The entity, since its foundation, has consistently supported the
defense of labour rights throughout Latin America.
In the Conference,
held from June 1st. to June 5th, 2016, I represented the ALAL (Latin American
Association of Labour Lawyers), an organization in which I am currently
Director for Legislative Affairs, and presented a lecture about the threats
that labour rights and fundamental guarantees have been suffering since the illegitimate
coup that recently took place in Brazil. The Conference was attended by over
200 participants and was held in the beautiful city of St. John's,
Newfoundland, Canada.
I was deeply
moved by the solidarity and companionship of CALL-ACAMS and all of its members.
The participants of the Conference expressed themselves in unison against the
illegal coup that recently took place in Brazil, reporting to the world the
injustice committed against our young democracy. The emotional pictures below
represent the impressive demonstration of activism and solidarity of Canadian
lawyers, who raised posters in English and French against the coup.
I must
confess that this was one of the most emotional moments of my career as a labour
lawyer and activist for human rights.
On behalf
of those who fight for the return of democracy to Brazil and for the end of the
de facto government of Temer, I would like to express my deepest appreciation
to the directors of CALL-ACAMS and all its members. I hope that sooner than
later we can celebrate the restoration of the democratic order in Brazil with
our Canadian friends.
Yours
sincerely,
Max
